      Course Overview

 

This course centres on a crucial issue for evaluators and potential evaluators: how to be a successful evaluation consultant?


The course considers strategic, technical and management aspects essential for becoming a successful evaluation consultant. Issues such as how to set-up as an evaluation consultant and effectively find work, how to manage customers efficiently and to diversify and grow an evaluation consultancy, as well as legal and financial planning issues, proposal writing for winning business and efficient management tools are covered.

 

The course is delivered by a trainer who has effectively managed his own consultancy since 10 years. Through practical exercises, presentations and case studies, participants will learn and develop management and technical know-how essential for becoming a successful evaluation consultant.

 

This is a full course, which consists of Part 1 and Part 2. Either part can also be taken separately.

TEACHER PROFILE

Dr Glenn O'Neil

Dr Glenn O’Neil is a founder of evaluation consultancy, Owl RE. Since 15 years, Dr O’Neil has built up his boutique consultancy to carry out over 100 evaluations in over 50 countries for some 40 international organisations, NGOs, governments and foundations.

 

Glenn has a PhD in research and evaluation methodology from the London School of Economics and Political Science and an Executive Masters in Communications Management from the University of Lugano, Switzerland. Glenn is Swiss/Australian and speaks French and English.

 

DURATION

Time required for completion solely depends on the student. However, we recommend allocating at least 4-5 hours for every module.
 

CERTIFICATION

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will receive a certificate with a unique ID number. The certificate can then be verified by an employer by email enquiry on TRAASS’s website.

      Course Objectives

 

The course consists of two parts.

 

The first five modules focus on the development of strategic and "soft" skills. Upon completion of the first five modules you will:

  • Understand what the key qualities to be a successful evaluation consultant are; 

  • Learn how to set-up as an evaluation consultant and effectively find work;

  • Develop skills in managing and retaining customers effectively;

  • Understand how to diversify and grow an evaluation consultancy. 

 

The second part of the course centres on Management and Technical issues. Upon completion of this part, you will:

  • Understand what the crucial legal, tax and financial planning issues for an evaluation consultant are;

  • Learn how to write effective proposals for winning business;

  • Learn about tools to support a more efficient management of evaluations;

  • Develop skills for managing teams, partners and clients. 

PREREQUISITE

Knowledge of the basic concepts of evaluation is desirable before taking this course.

      Course Methodology

 

This online self-paced course comprises of reading materials, video- lectures and practical exercises to ensure practicality of the knowledge acquired. Case studies throughout the course are used to ensure the hands-on approach and development of practical skills in how to be a successful evaluation consultant. Checklists, tips and templates are provided to the students to support them professionally as evaluation consultants.
